What a perfect Monday. Laundry done, dishes done, lunch with hubby at Zuppa's (if you haven't tried them out, you must! Fun, and Yum!) Call from the school during lunch, not so good. I am informed my son is missing and has been for 20 minutes. Mike and I make a hasty end to our lunch date and speed to the school contacting every possible person he might have gone to see in our phone directories. About half way to the school, I get a call from officer Fleming of the Roy City Police department, the school has provided them with a photo, I have updated them with what he wore to school that day, and the officer is questioning me about any possible place Landon might be. I arrive at the school to find that they have taken Park out with the school secretary trying to cover any area Landon might have gone, the police have called several different agencies to come help locate him, and they are preparing a search party. Landon has now been missing for 2 hours. The other officers are in route, I am telling the officer that I really think Landon has probably found a small space somewhere and is hiding at the school, because he knows if he goes to Grandma's or home, or any where else that he shouldn't be during school hours, he would be in big trouble! When suddenly I see Landon's sweet kindergarten teacher Mrs. Winter from last year walking down the hall with Landon in tow. Mrs. Winter had a recess break and decided to help in the search and thought to check the ball bin, a favorite "cool off spot" for Landon while in his class last year. There he was, he had just poked his head up for fresh air when Mrs. Winter spotted him.
I am so grateful for the fabulous staff at our school. Mrs. Roberts our principal was stern and took control of the situation (keeping a mother from losing her cool with her child.) Officer Fleming was gracious enough to let Landon know of how many people were involved in his search and why it was important not to leave school.
So my question was, "what did you do in a ball bin for 2 hours?" Landon says, "I tried to sleep, but it was too hot, so I just stared at the pattern on the balls." Ya, I think I would rather have been in class, but Landon can tell you lots of great stuff about balls now.
